Pronouns, a / an / the and Prepositions

1Subject and object pronouns
- Subject (does the action): I, you, he, she, it, we, they
- Object (receives the action): me, you, him, her, it, us, them
- She helps me. I help her.
- We like them. They like us.
උදාහරණය: Correct this: "Him is my friend."
පිළිතුර: He is my friend. "He" does the action, so it is a subject pronoun.

2a, an and the
- a + consonant sound: a book, a dog, a uniform (you-niform)
- an + vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u): an apple, an egg, an hour (silent h)
- the for a thing we already know or there is only one: the sun, the moon. I saw a cat. The cat was white.
Listen to the first SOUND, not the letter: an hour, a university.
3Prepositions of place
- in: The pen is in the box.
- on: The cup is on the table.
- under: The cat is under the chair.
- near / next to: The bank is near the post office.
- behind / in front of: The garden is behind the house.
- between: I sit between Amal and Kasun.
4Describe a picture
There is a table in the room. A vase is on the table. A ball is under the table. A girl is sitting near the window. Her bag is behind her chair.
